Joe Kenzinger sure knows how to set a trap.

Time and again, the Brother Rice middle blocker used his 37-inch vertical leap to blitz the net, luring opposing blockers away from intended assignments and opening holes for his teammates to exploit.

It was textbook for the Crusaders, and Kenzinger’s work as a lights-out player and capable decoy was one of the main reasons Brother Rice placed fourth in state, the second-best finish in program history.

Not all middle blockers command that kind of respect, but the 6-foot-6 Kenzinger, the Daily Southtown Player of the Year, is no ordinary middle.
