Before every volleyball match, Marist sophomore Marty Jepsen checks out the opponent’s defensive alignment and details about the court, such as the block he’ll need to hit.
However, he tries not to get bogged down by details.
Jepsen did just that on April 25 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) match against Carmel, and he played a leading role for the host RedHawks with 7 kills, 4 service aces and 12 digs, powering Marist to a quick 25-20, 25-18 win.
“I try and let it rip. I try not to over-think things too much,” Jepsen said. “If people see me as just a sophomore, that won’t do me any good. I won’t play to my full potential. I try and compete with all these guys.”
